You no longer need to live in the US to use Affirm’s buy now and pay later services for much of your online shopping. assert is in expansion to Canada through a partnership with Amazon. Spend $50 or more on Amazon.ca and you can choose Affirm’s pay over time option at checkout to split the bill into monthly payments. Just like in the US, there are no late fees or unexpected charges.

The payment option will be available within a month. The Canadian launch comes about two years after Affirm bought the local equivalent of PayBright; this is effectively a rebranding. Affirm also serves Australia, but only for people who buy Peloton exercise equipment.

This won’t help if you prefer to shop beyond Amazon, and it can get expensive if your purchase amount and payment schedule involve significant interest rates (ranging from zero to 30 percent, Affirm says). Just like with a car or a house, you’re paying more overall to make the price easier to swallow. Still, this could be useful if you can’t afford a computer or TV and need to spread the costs.
