Don’t worry if you’ve been looking for an external SSD that can handle some beating. Amazon puts the 1TB Samsung T7 Shield back on sale for $100, well below its official price of $160. The 2TB version has also dropped to $200 (normally $280). Savings apply regardless of color, so you can buy a beige unit if you find black or blue too tacky.

The hook, as before, is the durable design. The T7 Shield can survive a drop of up to 9.8 feet, and the IP65-rated chassis can resist dust and water while offering a rubberized grip to stay in your hands. In a nutshell, this is a solid drive for field photographers or anyone concerned about their data not surviving life on the road.

The USB-C drive doesn’t offer amazing performance with sequential read and write speeds of 1050MB/s and 1000MB/s respectively. This is more for daily backups and extended storage than it is for demanding creators who need every ounce of performance. However, the T7 Shield is still much faster than a conventional spinning hard drive, and the peace of mind of the ruggedized design might be worth it.
